    How can i get my hands on stock footage thats in the publis domain. Specifically natural disasters. Is this stuff free to use for commercail gain and can it be edited/used out of context legally.

    Have you seen this http://www.britishpathe.com

    British Pathe have put their archive of footage online - you acn get lo-res versions for free and you can buy hi-res versions which I think aren't too expensive (about ?50).
